This four-piece (Scott Healy keys, Glenn Alexander guitar, Shawn Pelton drums, Mike Merritt bass) debuts with a head-clobbering sonic assault that might be due to Return to Forever, if that band had formed in New York city in 2002. It’s the jazz foil to the heavy metal funk of Colonel Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains (reviewed Nov. ’04). T
The beats are straight rather than swung; the vibe is aggressive and spacey, but not sweet. The musicianship is astounding.
