The Coalition: Downbeat Magazine Review

This electrifying jazz-rock quartet directs its own interior movie through grungy sets of off-kilter backlots.

They fit through fanciful, quick-cut sequences using a battery of instruments both trad (clavinet, Fender Rhodes) and mod (Ableton Live, vibulator). “Beatnik Bob” wears Superfly git-up; “Coke” goes slightly up-country. The crystal caries industry labeling, and studio audience interaction lends theatrical patina.
